Transfer Files

Hi,

is there somebody who can help me with the next question:

I have several hundreds of laptop-user who will upgrade from Windows 2000
Pro to Windows XP Pro. These users save their files across the entire hard
disk, and most of them have no idea where exactly. Ofcourse they want to keep
their files afte the migration. Settings of programs and Windows are not
important.

the FAST-wizard does not meet the requirements. This wizard doesn't scan the
harddisk for files of that specific user. When I add a folder, it will take
the entire contents of that folder instead of only the files from the
specified user. (Guess what happens when I specified to use the Program
Files-folder)

The USMT-tool doens't comply either. I cannot get this tool to scan the
entire drive for user-files.

So i'm still searching for a tool which will scan an entire harddisk for
pre-defined filetypes from a specific user based on file-ownership.

Anyone?

Yours,

I take it you are contemplating doing a clean install of XP on the new
machines, and then want to restore the backed up user documents.

Why not consider doing an Upgrade Install? That would preserve the
user's files etc.

MVP Gary Woodruff has written an excellent article on using the FASTW
in Windows XP which you will find at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

You might find some helpful suggestions there regarding this issue.

Good luck
