Transfer emails from old computer to new

I am setting up Outlook on a new computer and wish to transfer the active
emails and archived emails from the old computer to the new. I am assuming
that I can copy the outlook.pst (active emails) and archive.pst (archived
emails) and paste them to the appropriate folder on the new computer. Is
this correct? I have set the location for the archive.pst folder, but I'm at
a loss how to find the location of the active email file, called backup.pst
in Outlook 2003, I think.

By now, it should be obvious that I don't really know what I'm doing, but
you'll understand what I am trying to do. Any suggestions would be most
appreciated.

On the other hand, it seems that in Outlook 2003 the archived emails are in
a file named backup.pst. If so, what is the name of the file that holds the
active emails? outlook.pst? I have done a search on the new computer and do
not find an outlook.pst or backup.pst file.

Incorrect. If you overwrite a PST that is part of an existing mail profile,
you will corrupt the mail profile and lose anything in the existing PST.
Moreover, even if you didn't overwrite an existing PST, just putting pasting
into the default folder doesn't configure Outlook to use the pasted PSTs.

The archive PST can be called anything you want, just like the main PST can
be named anyting you want.

See if this helps:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm
http://www.slipstick.com/emo/2002/up020605.htm#movetonew2002

The latter explicitly mentions OL 2002, but it applies equally to OL 2003
and OL 2007.
