Touchpad "clicks" on its own?

P

Paul D.Smith

Anyone know how to stop this? Apologies for what is probably a newbie
question!

I have a portable with Windows XP home and a touchpad. When I traverse the
Start/Taskbar menu items, if I hover over an item for too long, Windows XP
selects it for me, just as if I clicked the left mouse button.

I'm not the faster touchpad user in the world so I end up getting all manner
of programs started as I linger too long! Can I turn this "feature" off?

Thanks,
Paul DS.

Go to Control Panel and find the applet for Mouse/Touchpad. There should
be quite a few configuration options there.

Check the documentation that came wih your computer. Also check
your own operation carefully. It's possible that withourt realizing
it you're just slightly lifting your finger and then setting it
down again at the end of that pause. I found that was the case for
me, and it took some practice to stop doing that.

Common problem. Check the mouse control panel applet and turn off
tapping if you can.
