total subtotal cells

i created manual subtotal cells in a column and now want to add them up but
not using auto subtotal feature. Does anyone know how to do this? Many
moons ago I was able to do it in Lotus..... if that helps.

maybe I've misunderstood your q but in the cell where you wish the total of
the sub totals to appear

=sum(cell ref for sub total a + cell ref sub total b + etc etc)
