Total Elasped Time

I am trying to determine total elasped time of an event.
For instance if something starts at 6:40 A.M. and stops at
16:30 P.M. what is the total elapsed time? The answer
that I can get Excel to produce is 9:50. The answer that
I need is 9.8333. All help in this matter is greatly
appreciated. Thank you.

=((K3-K4)*1440)/60

=(K3-K4)*24 does the same thing
