Hi,
I have noticed that the toolbars look different depending on how Excel
starts. If I click on a spreadsheet file to launch Excel the toolbars
look flat and have a dotted outline around them. If I start Excel from
the start menu the toolbars have more of a 3D look to them. Also the
"About Microsoft Excel" looks different. The information in it is the
same either way. I only have the one copy of Excel installed.

Does anyone know why this occurs?

You are maybe starting two instances of Excel and accessing two different
versions of your *.xlb file

With one instance running and a workbook open go to Tools>Options>General and
uncheck "ignore other applications" if it is checked.

Close Excel and try both methods of opening a file.

I only found 1 *.xlb file on my PC. It was in a folder I kept some
files from my old PC (circa Office XP). I deleted the file and so far I
have not noticed Excel appearing differently depending on how it is
launched.

If it does i will look in task manager to see if there is a hidden copy
of excel running or something like that.

Thanks

If you deleted the only copy of *.xlb you found, Excel will have re-built it the
next time you close Excel.

For now, you problem seems to have gone away, but you did not find all copies of
*.xlb, only the one you had saved from the old computer.
