toolbar validating event not working?

I can't seem to get this to fire off when I move from a datagrid cell to the
navigation toolbar i've built in vs 2003.

I found one newsgroup thread stating this is a buggy event. would like
additional input on this.

I assume the reason is that pressing a toolbar button doesn't take the focus
away from the grid.
