Toolbar title

I created a toolbar on my taskbar to replace the Office toolbar I used to
have before I upgraded to Office. There appears to be some conflicts with
some applications with my two-monitor machine when I have this toolbar on
the side, so I decided to leave it on my task bar.

I have it pointed to c:\shortcuts where I have the shortcuts I want. But
this used up too much of my task bar, so I clicked on it to tell it not to
display the title. Instead of making that smaller, it made it larger, as
the first shortcut in that folder dropped down.

What did I do wrong?

Hmmm. I'll have to decide whether the gain in not displaying my title on my
task bar is worth not having the text display for my shortcuts.

Use unique icons so labels aren't necessary. If you forget, just hover
the cursor to pop up the balloon text.

I tried it. I have the same amount of space taken by my bar - only now it
has three of the icons on it. Apparently it allocates enough space to fit
the title and uses it no matter what.

R-click the bar, View, Small Icons cause any change to it?

I had small icons, but got to switch to large icons.

This solved a problem I have been trying to solve for years though. My sister
has the ugly two layered icons on her task bar and I haven't been able to get
rid of them. By right clicking on the vertical separator, I can get "view"
and change between large and small icons on the task bar. I tried clicking
other places but never found that menu until just now. I accidentally got it
large and then spent 5 minutes trying to figure out how I got there before I was
able to set it back to small.

I'm not at the computer I was at, so I just created the desktop toolbar, and
then tried to turn off title. Same thing happens here - if I turn off the
title, no space is eliminated, one or more the shortcuts fall into the task
bar.

Don't know what you are doing, as I have no difficulty turning off the
text and setting small icons and literally dragging the new toolbar
anywhere and to any size I want. All it does is gives me little "double
arrows" to indicate more icons, or I can drag it till all that's left is
the separator bar.

I'm leaving my toll bar on my task bar. I tried with my XP machine at home,
and while posting, with my W2K machine at work.

Let me try again:

1. Left click task bar.
2. Select Toolbars/Desktop
3. I now have the word Desktop>> on my toolbar between my minimized windows
and the icons next to my time. I am unable to move the bar to the left of
Desktop to the right.
4. I click on >> and see the shortcuts on my desktop.
5. I right click on the vertical bar to the left of Desktop >>
6. I unclick "Show Title". Now instead of saying Desktop >>, it says My
Computer >>, as the My Computer icon from my desktop dropped into replace the
"Desktop" title. (The icon of My Computer is to the left of the title)
7. I right click on the vertical bar to the left of My Computer>>
8. I unclick "Show Text". Now My Computer is gone, but the icons for My
Computer, My Networks, Trash, and Outlook are in that spot. If I click on >>,
my remaining 2 desktop icons are visible.

This doesn't happen to you?

Ok, Followed that. When the Taskbar is "horizontal"(across the bottom)
You may reduce the toolbar size to 3 icons plus the double arrows. If
"Vertical" (up the side) you may reduce to 1 icon plus the double
arrows. The title or text if enabled will expand the size if needed. If
the toolbar is NOT in the Taskbar, you may reduce it to a very small
square, with only part of an icon showing.

There is one way I found that allows me to reduce how much space the tool bar
takes from my horizontal task bar.

Create a directory that has a 1 letter name, and point the toolbar to it.
Apparently the size that is grabbed is just big enough to fit the title - and
that doesn't vary just because I am not displaying the title.
