Toolbar menus with icons.

Hi,

I can't figure out how to add an icon to a drop down menu in a custom
toolbar. (Like, for example, the "Sum" menu on the standard toolbar.)

Thank you.

Bura, I'm running Excel 2003, and here's how I added an icon to the
"Average" command on the "AutoSum" dropdown menu on a custom toolbar:

1-With the Customize dialog box open, I pulled down the AutoSum menu on my
custom toolbar and selected Average.
2-In the Customize dialog box, on the Commands tab, I clicked Modify
Selection > Change Button Image, and selected an icon.
3-I closed the Customize dialog box.

I was not specific enough in my post.

I want the menu header itself to have an icon, not the drop down items
themselves! In other words, I want to make my drop down menu look he the
AutoSum menu on the toolbar.

Thanks for response!

Bura, what version of Excel are you using? Are you trying to put the AutoSum
menu itself or a custom menu on your custom toolbar? And how are you putting
the buttons on your toolbar? Are you dragging them from the Customize dialog
box? Ctrl-dragging them from another toolbar? I have Excel 2003, and I'm
trying to replicate what you're experiencing.

Excel 2002.
No, autosum was just an example. All I want is a drop down menu with an icon
in the menubar header. I'm only talking about custom menus.
I don't get the option to add an icon to the menu header of the custom menu.

Thanks,

Bura

Bura, thanks for posting back. We're getting somewhere. Unfortunately, where
we're getting is not where we wanted to go :-(

I've been looking into the question. I looked here:
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/toolbars.htm#xl2kmenus, then I followed
up some of the references at the bottom of that page. No luck.

As far as I can determine, there's no way to display an icon on a custom
menu. Only text.

I'll be delighted to stand corrected on this one.

Well, we know that this is possible in principle since some built-in
menubars in Excel have this property.
