toolbar arrangement

I have a widescreen monitor. I work with Word (and Publisher, mainly) to
created letter-size documents (in other words, documents only 8.5 inches
wide). This leaves me with a ton of empty space that I'd like to fill with
toolbars and menubars to maximize the amount of vertical space on the screen.
I can move the toolbars, but they stay narrow, so my Zoom button and font
name button (for example) don't show up. Can I make the toolbars shorter and
wider so that these buttons will show up?

You don't say what version of Word you have, but if it is Word 2002 or 2003,
go to Tools | Customize | Options and make sure that "Always show full
menus" and "Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows" are both
checked. Does that help?

Are you docking your toolbars on the side? When you do, this results in a
very different sort of configuration.

Thanks, Suzanne! Actually, shortly after I posted the question, I played
around with the toolbars some more and was able to get them the way I wanted
them. I kept them to the side, but dragged them over a bit which turned them
from vertical to horizontal, then I moved the mouse around over them until I
found the up and down arrows, which allowed me to resize them from long and
narrow to short and squat.
