Tool to verify display settings

Is there a tool to verify the actual settings in the video card/monitor for
256 colors/.High color/True color?
I don't see such info in Belarc Advisor or SiSoftware Sandra.

I have a reason to doubt the veracity of the setting indicated by Control
Panel | Settings | Display.

SIsan does show the "Current Display Settings" Under the DISPLAY icon
AIDA32 is another one that will show "Current Desktop Settings"

I saw the list of supported modes in SiSoft Sandra, but did not find where
it stated which mode was being used.
