I'm running winxpsp2 and I wonder if there's a tool to determine
whether my BIOS supports LBA48.

I'm having a strange problem of BIOS detecting my 160gb hard disk as
137gb while winxpsp2 shows that I have than that.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the Intel website at
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/iaa/sb/cs-009302.htm . There is lots
of useful information there but at the bottom of the page where the above
URL points, there is a test program.

Thanks but this is of no help to me because I'm running Winxp SP2. The
tool listed there can't be used. I quote the warning included in that
website:

"Caution: Running this test program on systems using non-supported
operating systems such as Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT*
4.0 will produce a 'NTVDM.EXE' error."
