I purchased this new Compaq computer with XP . I like it better than my old
Windows Me. The only problem I have so far is taking to long to shut down and
off.
It takes 40 seconds to shut down and off. On my old Window's Me it takes
only 20 second's. Is that the norm for the new XP windows. Thanks for any
help.

It takes longer for an XP system to shutdown because XP does a lot more
cleanup and closing of files than Windows 9x which helps create a more
stable setup. The length of time is somewhat dependent up what you were
doing, what applications and files were open, not only files you opened but
files opened in the background by the system.
