Too Many Word Documents!!!!! Can Access Help???????????

Jerry

I have 14 word documents, many of which have duplicating line items. Some
documents have all line items, some different line items. It is extreamly
hard to keep track of changes made to each document. It is also extreamly
hard to solve input errors. Or at least to keep tract of them. I noticed
some Access databases which can be used as a call center tracting approach.
Was wondering if there was a way with Access to somehow be designed to
incorporate these 14 documents and then be able to apply filters or do
quieries against the data.

Any and all help is apprciated.
Thanks

You can have Access keep track of them by storing their file names and
locations in a table.

Or you can move the contents of the Word documents (with less or little
formatting depending on the Access vintage) into Access and have it create
documents (reports whenever needed. And such searches / filtering would
be easy.

I don't know of a way to have Access root around (filter etc.) inside of an
actual Word document.

Access can't incorporate the Word documents - but it *can* certainly
incorporate the information in those documents and generate reports (which can
be made to look exactly like the printouts from your Word documents).

Access is a database, and takes "line items" and such in stride. Word is a
word processor. If you want to drill holes, use a drill press - not a table
saw!

It's going to be a BIG job implementing an Access database to do what you're
now doing with Word, especially if you aren't acquainted with the program; but
it's doable and we'll be glad to help.

Well, that depends... can I email you an invoice at my current consulting
rates?

Sorry, that's a bit beyond what I'd consider reasonable for unpaid volunteer
support.

Absolutely you can send me your current consulting rates John, and I do
appologize for talking up your time.

clhaskins@caci current rates can be sent here..
Thanks again for the input.
