I'm copying a large table (a financial statement) from a web site into
Excel 2007.
Excel has decided to split columns which contain a comma, into two
seperate columns. This is fine for date/time columns
(02/07/2011,17:32:15) , but Excel also splits columns of numbers
containing thousands seperators.

e.g. the number 21,470 gets split into two columns 21 and 470.

How can I stop this behaviour?

If importing a text file you are given the option to choose wich
characters are treated as delimiters on step 2 of the Text Import Wizard.

However you can't have it both ways. It will either split the number
into two columns or put two dates into one column.

I have been selecting the data on the web site (ctrl-C), and pasting
into Excel (ctrl-V).
Should I be using a wizard?

I would try using Data>Import External Data>New Web Query

Or paste the copied data to Notepad then open that *.txt file in
Excel.

The Wizard will show up.
