Dear Mark V,

Thanks for responding to the Registry at Win tech. I sure
do hope that I am not wasting your time!

I'm Trying to change/configure the registy to read "My
Computer" so that while i'm in MS outlook, I can insert a
file with out having to back out of 'My Documents' (all
the way back to 'My computer'- with all the drives
listed... is this a better explaination? I am trying to
set the registry at the 'personal' to read the main system
directory (or in other words 'my computer')

See Below (to:)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software/Miscroft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/User/Shel
l Folders/Personal

Change: %USERPROFILE%\My Documents

To: the main directoy with Drive C: and also the
Mapped letter drives such as X:,S:

Thank you again.

Marc F.

As in other post (where I did in fact guess what you wanted) I said
that I know of no way to do that as "My Computer" is a virtual
location and not a file-system location. I am not saying it cannot
be done, just I don't know how. :)

I'll try a few ideas and get back to you.

New knowledge is never a waste, even when the answers are not what
you expected. ;-)

Okay. This is specifically for OUTLOOK? In OL 2000 doing a Insert,
File brings up the Office Places Bar. Is that a solution? I mean
having "My Computer" there as a Place?

If so, then forget "Personal" and instead alter the Office Places
Bar. Now I know that the Windows Common Dialogs PLACES can be made
to show "My Computer". What I do not know is if the Office Places
can also do that. Apparently later versions of Office can do that,
but not 2000. So version might be important.

Some things to look at.
www.jsiinc.com Tip 2591 (and 2514 ComDlg)
http://www.outlookpower.com/issues/issue200306/00001054001.html

The best I could do with W2K and Off2K for the Office Places was to
define a Place. Then add "My Computer" to "Favorite" (link) and then
move the .lnk file (from Favorites folder) to the Place. That's
still 2 clicks....

Or put that .lnk file _in_ your "My Documents" location (maybe just
one click to get to "My Computer").

I doubt I will pursue this any further, but will watch the thread for
ideas. Good luck. And thanks for an interesting search.

PS I still don't know how to make "Personal" point to "My Computer",
