Try going into the Task Manager (either right-clicking on the Taskbar and
clicking on "Task Manager" or pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL), choosing the program,
and then clicking on either END TASK or END PROCESS.
Steph's response will only stop the program after loading, which will
not solve your situation. You need to stop the apps from loading at
startup/boot time which robs your system of its resources. Go here:
Start>Run>type MSCONFIG and click OK, now click the startup tab. See all
the apps that are checked, uncheck/disable the ones not needed during
your sessions, click Apply and Close. Reboot. Make sure you do not
uncheck your anti-virus program. Unchecking/disabling the apps from
loading does not delete them, all icons will still work when clicked on.
You can always go back and recheck any you prefer.
before DISABLING any programs, do a Google search on each program name
to see if it's suggested. Indeed, a surprisingly great number of these
programs are pointless resource hogs like suggested, but you DO NOT
want to disable crucial system or security programs.
Please list the names of the programs you are unable to stop. As others have
said, the Task Manager is one way to stop programs/processes from running.
To access the Task Manager:
A. Right click a blank spot on your bottom toolbar and left click Task
Manager on the subsequent menu.
B. Press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys at the same time.
