tmp file error messages

I have Windows XP. While the computer is running, it will get about 40 error
messages a day. All of these messages are similar, stating that some temp
file has failed and is going to be closed down. Do I want to send a report to
Microsoft.
For example "ldF25C.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." The files are always named something like
"ldEDF2.tmp" or "ldA998.tmp". This started 5 days after I installed Trend
Micro's PC Cillin. I do not know if there is a connection and if I should
uninstall and reinstall PC Cillin, or not.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Please copy replies to my

You have some sort of malware.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Do the same for whatever anti-spyware applications that you have.

Also clean out your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | click Apply | OK. Entirely up to you, but if you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Wes,

I tried all of your suggestions and I still have the same problem. For your
information, I usually use Firefox as a browser. There is one program that I
use that requires Interner Explorer. I cleared the cookies, history and temp
files for both browser programs. I also ran a full virus scan using Trend
Micro's PC-cillin with the latest definitions. I ran the latest scan for
Spyware using Spybot and Lavasoft for Ad-Aware.

The problem still exists. 40-50 error messages a day for temp files that
have failed and are closed out. So, we need to look deeper into the system. I
am having trouble finding anyone that can help. Anyone else have an idea? I
do not want to wipe the disk clean by reformating it and loose all my data.

Thank you,

Leonard

Leonard,

*.tmp files do not normally run, so they normally do not encounter a problem
and need to close.

You have some kind of crap on your machine.

Clean out your Windows\Temp folder.
Start | Run | Type or paste the following line and click OK...

temp

Delete everything in the right hand pane. XP will not let you delete a file
that is in
use.

Clean out your Temp folder.
Start | Run | Type or paste the following line and click OK...

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp

Delete everything in the right hand pane.

Delete all of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially

and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

Do a Search for all .tmp files on your machine.

Type: *.tmp in the Search box.

I know I have something wierd going on. I just don't know how to fix it. I
tried your most recent suggestions. Still no solution. Whatever is going on
is generating the temp files. After I erase them, new ones appear at the same
rate. So the problem is not in the temp files itself, but something that
generates them.
