Tiny File Server

Hi,

I wonder is there are really small (size and capacity) file servers /
drives?

I'm looking for something with less the 1 giga and in a size of flash
memory pen.

If anyone know about something like that, please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi,

IIRC, there are some NAS boxes that take 2.5" HDDs, and if
you wanted to you could use a compact flash adapter to
reduce drive size but increase the reliability. With the
lower power usage, size and heat of the CF based drive, you
could probably put the "guts" into a smaller case too, but
it's not going to be anywhere near the size of a pen.

Being curious I'll ask: Why? What need is there for such a
device and what market would use them in volume enough to
make it cost-effective to manufacture? If cost isn't an
issue then you might find some embedded ethernet server
capable boards at much higher (than a typical thumbdrive)
cost, for example,

There are devices that halfway meet your description and are
essentially a flash thumbdrive, for example,
http://www.webservusb.com/
though they're nothing special, you could put a server app
on any thumbdrive and have it run from another box without
having to buy one designated as such.

The problem with that last linked product is, a USB based
device uses a host- an entirely separate "computer" device
with it's own USB port.
