Timing of reactivation after reinstall

B

Bernice Barnett

I am thinking about erasing my hard disk (after backing up important
files) then doing a complete reinstall of Win XP SP2 from the CD. Of
course I will need to reinstall drivers, applications, redo various
settings, and do updates of all products. At what point in this trek
must I do the reactivation? I presume a phone call to MS is necessary.

Anytime between the first boot up into Windows XP after the install
completes and 30 days later.

It depends. If retail or generic OEM, then probably not. If from one
of the top twenty OEMs then maybe, depending one your install media.

Thank you for the reply. I have my original non-OEM CD. If I understand
you correctly, I have the same amount of time to activate on a reinstall
as I did for the original install. That is indeed good news.

Yep, thirty days. And if its been more than 120 days since the last
activation, then activation should go through over the internet, like it
was the first time too.
