Time interpreted as range.

I have a spreadsheet that I am trying to enter a time in
the format of 12:30 and excel keeps changing it to a
range. I checked the cell format and it appears to be
correct. On another sheet in the same workbook this
problem does not exist. What might cause this behavior?
TIA
George

Are you starting with an equal sign?

=12:30
instead of
12:30
???

No, but Excel is inserting one for me like it thinks I
want it to be a formula.

Try turning off:

tools|options|transition tab|transition formula entry

If you're a "normal" excel user (and there aren't many normal people who use xl
<vbg>), you'd probably be better served by turning off all those Lotus 123
transitions.

(I have and think that I'm a better person for doing so. <vvbg>)

That fixed it, thank you very much...
