Time & Date difference

I have a Windows XP Pro box with several mapped drives on a Win 2003 Server network. During normal hours, everything works just fine. Between 5-6PM everyday, I cannot access a mapped drive from a program and get this error

There is a time and/or date difference between the client and the server

I've got a batch file to synch the time again, but its very annoying having this happen every day. Reinstalled the software, still occurring. Symantec AV is running a scheduled scan at a different time. There are no other scheduled tasks at that time

Ideas??

How old is the computer? Not since you have had, but in total? It is
possible that the clock battery is running down. It is also possible that
you are syncing up to two different time servers. Your best bet would be to
look in your server documentation to point your client to auto-update system
time off of the server time. Unfortunately, I do not have the exact details
on how to do that in front of me.

The box is less than two months old. We've changed location and cables and the problem still occurs. The same user just got a buffer overrun error and Windows shut down. We replaced her PC with her old one at the moment. Once we dtermine that the problem does not occur on the old PC, we'll wipe the new one and start over. Thanks for the answer though. I hope it isn't the (very rare) Dell possessed box. I have encountered one of those.....no matter what you do...

Mac,

How great is the time/date difference? Does it only happen between
17:00 - 18:00, or is it only observed then? Does your program
successfully access the mapped drive at other times?

Are both computers in the same time zone?

Have you checked or replaced the batteries on both computers?

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Any problems that affect time when Windows is up and running have
nothing to do with the battery. That only affects the clock that runs
while power is off, and forms the start point for the windows clock at
boot.

Sounds like a connection to a different domain server - in a different
TZ when out of hours
