thumbs.db

I have a thumbs.db that I need to open. I have tried all
the programs I can think of to open it. Is there a way
to open a thumbs.db and retrieve the images that are
there? A friend, copied some pictures over other
pictures of the same name. I can see them in the
thumbnails which to mean means they are in the
thumbs.db. Am I on the right track? Is there any way to
retrieve pictures that are stored as thumbnail images?

The file is generated by the system when using thumbnail view.

is there any other way to open the file - or does the db
file only show the list? I need to gain access to the
underlying pictures.

It appears to be a database with bitmaps in it. Bitmaps start with the characters BM.

 

[NoNoBadDog!]

The thumbs.db only contains icon sized bitmaps of the photos...the original
photo is not incorporated into the thumbs.db file, so even if you found some
way to extract the small bitmaps, they would not do you any good as they are
icon sized.
