Thumbs.db

When I open my FTP program, I notice that I have a file called Thumbs.db in
that particular folder. Why is that there and what does it do? Can I
delete it?

That file is generated if you are using thumbnail view on that folder in
explorer as a cache file. You can safely delete it but it will be generated
each time you open that folder unless you change to another view, or enable
'do not cache thumb nails' in Tools > Folder Options > View tab. To make
thumbs.db visible in explorer you will need to select 'show hidden files and
folders' and uncheck 'hide protected operating system files'.
