Three problems
1 Where can I find the Event Log

2 In trying to resolve my broadband connection problem (see 3), I booted
off the CD, selected R for repair and did an emergency repair; this didn't
resolve the broadband problem but what is the 'Recovery Console' and how do
you use it ?

3 I've finally traced my broadband connection problem to the Remote
Access Service system (RAS). A 'Error 711' exists meaning it doesn't work!
Searching the web comes up with a lot of hits on this, mainly due to one of
MS' updates (823803) being a cause. This was late last night so I haven't
done the suggested removal yet if that update has been installed anyway.
One of the postings I read talked about re-installing the RAS system - how
do you do that ?

Thanks for any help

For the answers to your questions 1 and 2:
- Click Start / Help / Search tab
- Type "Event Log", or "Recovery Console"
(sometimes called "Command Console")

MS Knowledge Base No 829779 solved the problem (many hours and a lot of
frustration later!)

Thanks for the feedback. This is rather exotic - restoring WinXP,
with a mismatch of service packs . . .
