Thousands of files in "Protected" Folder

Hi there,

I do have a Windows XP Professional installation. Some days after a fresh
installation, there were more than one thousand files in "Application data
\Microsoft\Protect\". The only thing I know is that it has something to do
with the encryption stuff.

The problem: Those huge amount of files slowed down the logon process to
one minute and more - lsass.exe tried to access all of those files. I
deleted the files and everything was fine. This has happened several times
- every time more than one thousand files were in that folder.

At the last logon today I noticed again lots of files in that folder.
However, now I am using file encryption on the system - and deleting those
files seems not to be a good idea now.
Does anyone have a good idea what to do?

Thanks,

Michael

Do you happen to also have Norton AntiVirus, CleanSweep or SystemWorks
installed? This is part the the Norton software.

Hi!

Do you happen to also have Norton AntiVirus, CleanSweep or SystemWorks

I do have McAfee 8.0 with Patch 10...

Cheers,

.... something I would like to add:

I checked another PC and noticed that there are also lots of files in that
directory; however, this PC does not have any problems regarding the speed
of the login process - goes as fast as ever.

What could be the problem with my other system?

Thanks & best wishes,

Michael

What you have posted here means absolutely nothing as it was posted "out of
thread". You also did not copy/paste the original question here for others
to refer to!

Do you really expect any viable assistance?
