Thoughts on IE8

I recently installed a new HD and IE8 and while similar, one feature I
find annoying is that when I want to save a link to my favorites I
have to repeatedly open the folders whereas in IE7 the folder would
remain open until I choose another or closed it. Is there a way to
keep the folders open so that I won't have to repeatedly open them?

Also, before I replaced the HD Windows Media Player was my default
movie player but now for some reason Quicktime opens up. Does anyone
know how do I disable QT and allow Windows Media Player to be the
default?

Don't know about IE8 as I am happy with IE6...

To make WMP the default media player start the item "Set Program Access
and Defaults" on your 'Start Menu' (or, if you cannot find this item,
type ('copy and paste') the following command into the "Run" box

control.exe appwiz.cpl,,3

Then, make sure the top item "Microsoft Windows" has the radio button
marked 'on' and press [ok] to set and exit this control.

WMP will be automatically be made default.

If you are using other 3rd-part apps for some of the listed functions -
then choose the bottom item "Custom" and then go to the "Media Player"
item and place the 'on' radio button into the "Windows Media Player"
item and press [ok] to set and exit the control.

Either way, this will make WMP back to the default media player.

(Alternatively - uninstall QT as it's rubbish - IMO)

Thats exactly what I have been doing, but I have folders in my
favorites that I have to click open.

Hi Ben,
Are you talking about the pin icon? If so, it does hold the folder
open but not when your adding to it. I really don't like the layout of
IE8 and wish they would have left well enough alone. It seems you have
to do more clicking etc just to get around.

I use the favorites selection from the uppermost bar in IE, all flavors.
See no apparent difference.

Do you have folders in your favorites? The reason I posted this is
because I am copying those favorite links which I previously had prior
to installing the HD and to open each folder individually instead of
staying open in rather tedious, especially for me since I have wrist
injuries. Yes, perhaps it would have been much easier and faster if I
had Norton Ghost or Acronis but the issue remains.

Yes, buttload of folders within the Favorites Folder hierarchy here.
Normally, I keep a backup of the entire Favorites Folder, its weblinks,
folders and their weblinks using the backup feature via import/export of IE.
I save this to removable media for safe keeping. Its saved as one file
(bookmark.htm). The import feature of IE allows restoration sourcing from
this file. I don't copy anything manually, weblinks or folders under
Favorites Folder. For future reference, I suggest you follow suit.
