This worksheet contains links that cannot be updated

A newly modified worksheet displays this message every time I open it in
spite of the fact that the status of all the links is stated to be ok. The
macros contain no reference to sheets that have been moved. How can I stop
this happening?

When you write "A newly modified worksheet...", do you mean a new workbook that
you just created?

If yes, you may want to look at your book.xlt workbook template file that's
stored in your XLStart folder. It may have been created with those troublesome
links.

You'll want to open it and fix that so that you can create a new workbook
without the problem.

Have a look in Insert>Names>Define for anything that could be a defined name
that refers to another workbook.

You may have named ranges that refer to other sheets. One of my
colleagues sent me a file that had been passed on from person to
person to person and it had about 1500 named ranges, all pointing to
other files.

If you've checked all the possible sources of external links and
simply want to disable to startup prompt, on the menu click >Edit

Links and select the Startup Prompt button in the lower left corner.

Choose the radio button that you prefer.

Gord - your advice worked for me. I believe the problem was due to macros
referring to another (now non-existent) workbook. I deleted all the Names
that I didn't need and now I no longer get the error message. Thank you!
