The next person to post asking whether their Windows version is 32 or
64-bit will be plonked. Anyone too lazy - or stupid - to scroll back through
a couple of hours of posts doesn't deserve a reply. Yes, I said a couple of
hours. I did some quick maths and this question is asked - on average -
TWELVE times a day. There may be those with more patience than I, but I know
that I certainly don't want to be bothered answering the same question ad
infinitum, especially when the poster could have found the answer on their
own had they been bothered.

I have a link in my signature that tells you all about asking Smart
Questions. Here is an excerpt: -

Before You Ask
Before asking a technical question by email, or in a newsgroup, or on a
website chat board, do the following:

1.. Try to find an answer by searching the Web (http://groups.google.com).

2.. Try to find an answer by reading the manual.

3.. Try to find an answer by reading a FAQ.

4.. Try to find an answer by inspection or experimentation.

5.. Try to find an answer by asking a skilled friend.

People asking said question haven't bothered to do any of the above. These
groups are NOT here to do your research for you - they are a last resort
*ONCE YOU HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HELP YOURSELF*. By asking the same questions ad
nauseam, you demonstrate that you're too lazy to assist yourself and want
things done the easy way. Sorry, but it doesn't work like that.

Please follow the above steps first - if you *STILL* can't find an answer,
*THEN* post.

I will end by quoting the first paragraph from the guide

Um, Perdita, if someone asks a question 12 times a day and you don't
want to answer it, then don't answer it. Your argument is the same as
someone that says they don't like a TV show so it should be off the
air. If you don't like it don't watch it. Is this your JOB to anmswer
these questions? Don't think so.

It drives me nuts to see the same question all the time also. In the
OUTLOOK group the questions is always "How do I set up OUT OF OFFICE
ASSISTANT?". Must have answered that one 15 times in one day; to the
point I was just copying and pasting. People come to the newsgroups
for help. Yes, most have not tried to find the answer themselves very
hard, but it is not OUR job to lecture them.

When you get paid to answer these questions, then complain. Stop
being an IT person (most techies think like you do. No people skills
at all.) and try to help when you can.

And you've spectacularly missed the point. I never said someone, I said
people (it's plural you know) and this was never meant to be sent - I'd not
finished typing it.

So, how come you're not slamming the hundreds of people that ask the same
question about the MSBLASTER worm? That question seems to be about every
other post in here since Monday. So, I guess if it's a CRITICAL question,
even if you just answered it, that's okay, but not how to tell the
difference between 32 or 64-bit?

Exactly. I am an IS professional and I had to look for the difference of a
32 and 64. It happens. People have brain farts every once in awhile. Get
some people skills and be helpful or stay off the NG.

I agree with the Nitt picker. There are two instances where the question
is asked and answered on adjoining lines, I mean just the line above,
you can't get any closer than that! You don't even need to scroll. :-(

K

Knight

you may have seen that smartypants, after BOTH questions are synced by the
news server YOU are on, but that may need some time for the other persons
newserver to sync (if he/she presses the send recieve button that is) all
the posts posted!

I've got to agree, to a certain extent. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind
helping people, I enjoy it in fact, but it's always nice to know that they
maybe at least tried to help themselves first.

There are an awful lot of identical messages relating to 32 & 64 bit Windows
XP (and the MSBLAST virus / RPC issue that precipitated them), so there's no
real excuse for anyone not spotting at least one of them if they'd only take
the trouble to look.

This board is for people to ask questions and get resolution for their
problems. It is used by whomever for whatever reason they choose. Maybe
some people don't want to research for hours to find a solution. Maybe some
people can't find what they are looking for.

Redundant questions happen all the time but to react to people like you own
the board and have some authority over what people post is ludicrous. If
you don't want to answer the question then don't but don't criticize people
for asking them.

This happens because of the excessive crossposts. I am leaving
the crossposts as is.

Also people with legitimate questions

What you describe as BS, is a major problem to the people trying to get

No, these are help forums!
I have been using these ms public news
groups since w95a.
So!

I can remember the time when no reply would
be given to a poorly written request.

And your proud of that?

To me these repetitious poorly
written requests are considerably more rude and discourteous than
a terse reply to them.

From your pissy perspective!

You must not be a very good IS if you didn't
know. But that is the way now. No real craftsmen.

Wow! You did the "maths" all by yourself!? You came up with a *whole* 12 times
a day! Damn, that's just far too many in a 24 hour period!
Look you stupid cow, if you don't like it, go jump off a cliff and quit
torturing us with your pseudo-intellectual bullshit. Better still, go take that
job at the plastic bag factory, they still need you. ****ing idiot. Maybe it's
just *YOU* who's too damn "lazy" to either not answer or skip over them if it
bothers you so much. Either way, shut the hell up, and put that bag over your
towsack back over your head...your frightening the natives.

You lying dog shit! First, your point was "spectacularly" easy to find, nobody
could miss it, you inbred moron! Second, now you're trying to cover up your
bullshit with more bullshit by lying. That post was finished, a damn 5 year old

Beginners usually have no idea that they can even look for
previous examples of the same question. Moreover, people with
MSblast may not be able to keep their computer up long enough to
do a search. And those who have just found out that they have
been infected are in semi-panic mode; they want (and need) quick
answers, not complaints from you.

If I have a choice between reading messages from people asking
about how many bits their windows version is or reading messages
from you complaining about them, it's an easy choice--I'll take
those asking the question any time. And I'll also help when I
can, and answer them if someone else hasn't supplied a good
answer first. It's quick and easy to do so (by cutting and
pasting) and I'd like to help them when I can. If *you* are too
lazy to help them, then don't do it.

And if you'd like to plonk me too, be my guest. Here, I'll make
it easy for you and ask you the dreaded question: How do I find
out whether I have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?

WOOHOO!! LOL!!!!! 'Bout time.
