I have MS Office 2002 installed in my computer. For some reason I do not have
the dictionary or thesaurus working. I was wondering if there is anyway I
could download those and install them since I lost the Office installer cds.
I also don't have the "research" feature that is mentioned in this forum.
Please help me since the thesaurus is very helpful when writing long essays.

Thanks,

Daniel

English proofing tools (spellcheck, hyphenation, dictionary, and
thesaurus) are installed by default in English language versions of
Office XP. A dictionary is not included in the proofing tools. Did you
choose a custom installation and deselect the proofing tools feature?
Did you run setup in maintenance mode and uninstall the proofing tools
feature? Do you get an error message when you try to run spellcheck or
use the thesaurus, and if so, what does the error message say?

Try opening a Word document, press Ctrl+A to select all of the text, and
click on Tools | Language | Set Language | <choose your language> |
uncheck the "Detect language automatically" and "Do not check spelling
or grammar" boxes | Default | OK. Does the spellcheck and thesaurus
work now?

If you really do not have proofing tools installed, then you will need
your Office XP CD to install the proofing tools. If you have a retail
copy of Office XP (not an OEM copy that came preinstalled on your
computer), you can obtain a replacement CD for a nominal fee at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326246 .

The Research task pane was introduced with Office 2003.

Oops, I meant to say "English proofing tools (spellcheck, hyphenation,
grammar check, and thesaurus) are installed by default..."

No. The Proofing Tools feature must be installed (or reinstalled) from
your Office CD.
