There is no disk in the drive. Pleas insert a disk into drive. ERROR!!

I'm at my wits end! I've been trying for dyas now to get pictures
from my digital camera onto my pc. Please bear with me on this as i'm
not even going to pretend I know what i'm talking about...

When I plug in my camera to the usb I get the following error message:
"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
\Device\Harddisk1\DR10" (sometimes this is DR18, DR12 etc etc) Then I
have 3 options: Cancel, Try Again or Continue. All of which get rid
of the message but won't allow me to get to my photos.

I still get the box for my camera asking me to import my images but
even if i press ok, nothing comes up because of this message.

Reading about this on other websites it mentions checking in My
Computer/Manage/Disk Management and seeing what drive is being used.
The only thing is, the camera is not shown here so I cant change the
drive which is recommended.

I have noticed when checking the driver details for my sony usb
device, they are listed under C:\Windows\System32....could this be a
problem?

I've obviously tried the uninstall and re-install thing and also tried
installing it on another computer with the same problem which makes me
wonder if there is some fault with the camera?!

Sorry for the essay...

Sounds like the memory card in your camera might have failed...
double check to make sure it's inserted properly

Thanks, but i've tried this and it's in fine. I've just managed to
find an update for the usb driver off the sony website which has got
rid of the error message (for now!) and replaced it with another:
Cannot find the following folder for image import C:\etc etc

So I still can't get to my pictures!

Just make a new folder for importing your images
or browse over to one you want to use

When I plug in my Sony CyberShot camera and turn it on, it shows up in the
my computer window under removable storage with an icon like a HDD.. Should
just be able to click your way to your pic's..

If the battery is low use the AC adapter..
Cheers

Well the pics aren't loading at all. When I go through that way, I
just get blank images apart from the 1st and last photo and when I
click on these to open them, they are blank when they open in a new
window :(

also to Philo - I can't choose where they are imported, all I can do
is rename the folder or choose to save in a previous folder. Renaming
the folder still doesn't work and choosing an existing folder just
says 'An error occured'

Ps, that harddisk error is back!!

Here is all I can think of:

Uninstall all the software that came with the camera...
reboot and reinstall.

If it still does not work...

and if you know someone else who has a computer you could try installing the
software
on it and see if the camera works there...
If it does not work there then it must be a camera problem...

I have a Dell with a P4 521 ( 2.8, 1x1, 800fsb ) Running XP Pro SP2 and it
came with a TSS CD/DVD READ ONLY drive. I intalled a Sony DRU-800A
internally and a DRU-800UL externally, which for over a year has worked fine.
First, the drives would not recognize CD Roms, either blank or factory
recorded. Now they both do not recognize ANY form of media, blank or
otherwise, and my USB drive is not recognized most of the time, and I also
have had intermittent problems with other USB 2.0 devices. The external drive
works just fine on a friends machine, and assume the internal also is working
( hardware anyhow ). If ANYONE has ANY idea of what might fix this, I would
be more than appreciative, especially if you are into rare and unreleased
live concert video footage professionally recorded!! READ ON..

All of the highest quality < Schoeps CMC4 + 21, 31 or 41 capsules>< OADE M18
phantom P.S.>< Canon L1 with 230 mm Canon Zoom>< on a Sachler ProPod Tripod><
using either an Apogee analog to digital converter>< or a Sony SBM-1 super
bitmapping A/D/A > for which audio first passes through a <PCM-M1 DAT> and
then to a <Sony DCR-TRV280> (Digital 8mm ) camcorder ( line in of course )
along with the camera signal (via S-Video cable) using it as a portable DVCR
as a transport only. I would be glad to BURN IF I COULD anything you may want
if you can help me out. My email is (e-mail address removed), THANX and happy
trailssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, John

Might try turning off the autoplay feature, otherwise may need to experiment
a bit for your desired effect..
Should work for flash/USB devices assigned drive letters, removable HDD's,
etc..
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/autorunsettings.zip

Try testing with the Windows XP TweakUI powertoy or Uwe Sieber's tool to
disable or enable
autoplay feature(s) insert notification, etc, on the CD/DVD drives, may be
part of the problem..
Hope this can help..

Might just start in either app, with unchecking the box for CD/DVD drives
first, notice any change..?
Post your results..
Cheers

Dear AWE:

Does your computer case have a slot to allow you to insert the camera's
memory card directly into the computer?

Just a suggestion. It would avoid the software or other hardware conflicts
that might occur and get you right into the data media.

Find out about posting to newsgroups from a proper usenet client. You
are responding to a thread that was originally posted in Feburary 2007

If it's answered, people are going to recover old ground and possibly

WTF is a lacie hard drive? I've never heard of one.

Lacie is a brand that Macintosh users might buy.

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Lacie/301304U/

"Computer with USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible);
Windows 2000,
Windows XP,
Windows Vista
Mac OS X 10.3 or higher;"

No different than any other USB2 external enclosure with hard drive.

No plugin should be needed. It sounds like Windows is recognizing
the enclosure as containing a removable media device. I don't have a
clue as to how that could be. I would have expected a USB
interface chip inside the enclosure to not respond, if the
drive itself was dead. You may want to remove the drive
from the enclosure, and connect it to the computer directly.

I have heard of certain USB adapter chips (inside the enclosure),
"forgetting" their identity. But then the symptoms would be
different. I think that has happened with some Cypress brand chips
that are used in enclosures.
