The Windows Search function doesn't work

Bit of a weird one thisone....

When I go in to the Windows Search function I expect to be able to enter my
search criteria. However, I don't get any boxes to enter my search criteria,
only the Windows pet, which doesn't do anything when I click on it. Also the
Edit pulldown menu exists but you don't get any menu appearing when you
click on it!

Any idea why this might be and what I might do to rectify it?

No content in the search menu.

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 %Windir%\srchasst\srchui.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 /i urlmon.dll

Hi Wallace
Try the following steps

1. Log on to the computer by using an account with administrator
permissions.
2. Click Start , click Run , type %systemroot%\inf , and then click OK .
3. Locate the Srchasst.inf file.
4. Right-click the Srchasst.inf file, and then click Install . This
reinstalls the files that Search Companion uses.

regsvr32 wshom.ocx
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

if fails

perform the
sfc /scannow

If fails
