i have a trial version of office, which i have already activated via the
wizard icon on my desktop. today i tried to use word but it told me i have to
activate it and gave me only the option of activating it online or purchasing
the full version. when i try to activate it online it tells me the site is
down for maintenace and to try in a few minutes. well after half an hour of
continuously trying i am seriously annoyed at it still not working and
leaving me without the use of word. this is incredibly irritating and i don't
see a way round it. i am effectively powerless and unable to work which has
caused me wasted time and lost money. there is absolutely no way i would
purchase the full version of a software that is so non user friendly. i
wouldn't mind if microsoft had a 24-hour live assistance to help with such
things. but no.

any suggestions?

If you have already activated the trial version and it has expired, you
won't be able to activate it again without purchase, anyway. I would
strongly recommend against purchasing online (by just downloading a license
key). Buy the product (in a bricks-and-mortar retail store or an online
store) in such a way that you get the full product with media in case you
have to reinstall.

I am going to keep checking this to see if you get a response! I also am
having the same problem today, activation says it is down for maintenance and
to try again, which I have been doing ALL DAY.
Good luck to both of us, I too am losing valuable time and money!

Count me as having the same problem. I am trying to activate a purchased DVD
version of Office 2007 Enterprise edition and it keeps saying "activation
system is offline for maintenance...."
Only got 19 more runs of the software before it "looses some functionality".

Never had this happen before, especially with a MS product, very odd indeed.
It does give an option for telephone activation, just don't think I'm
willing to recite that HUGE LONG list of characters over the phone to someone
only to have to type another HUGE LONG list of characters in.

Been trying for almost half hour now, and it is 7pm Eastern time where I am.
