Please help me with my Windows Mail. I cannot move the messages into folders.
I have tried various methods (including to disable the e-mail scanning option
in the antivirus program) but no luck. This is really frustrating. Please
help me!

Which antivirus program? Some of them need to be uninstalled, not just
be partially disabled.

That's one that needs to be uninstalled to prevent the problem from
starting again, but once it's started there's a Microsoft download
you'll probably need to make the problem go away. Norton or
Trend antivirus can cause the same problem, so avoid them as a
replacement antivirus. Someone should reply later on where to
find the download and what antivirus programs don't cause
problems.

What happens when you try?
How are you trying to move them?

I just dragged the message (mail) from my Inbox to a specific folder in which
had been long created. I did not encounter this problem before (as well as
when using Outlook Express), just since last week. FYI, I have just started
using Window Mails for 2-3 weeks.

When I try moving the message (mail), a pop-up says "The selected message(s)
could not be moved.". That's it!

Also, sometimes after closing Window Mails (after several attempts
though...), and re-open, it works again; but most of the times it does not.
Please help!

Can you open the message without a problem?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.

Noted, thanks!

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

The instructions depend on who your internet provider is. Ask your
internet provider, or search their website to see if you can find the
instructions.

Or, you could tell us who your internet provider is and see if
anyone here has already found their instructions.

I assume you've already found out how to start Windows Mail,
the program Vista provides for doing email.

Download and install the following fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for messages stuck in the Outbox, it also works
in other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first.

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of the common
ones, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee, need to do
uninstalled, not just disabled, to stop them from causing problems in
Windows Mail.

Thank you it solved my problem. Previously I couldn't move or delete a
message in VISTA's Windows Mail. After downloading your suggestion I was able
to to delete the errant message.
