I've got a humdinger of a virus problem (can't even do a system recovery!) Is
this the right place for help?

I think so. I would add a lot of info about your PC.I've got a humdinger of a virus problem (can't even do a system recovery!) Is

had the same problem, and if you can put whatever you can on a thumbdrive
that you want to save if you can still access anything. I ended up buying a
new desktop, because my harddrive even after formatting couldn't load windows
xp

Crayon5 said:HPxw8000, XPPro. I've downloaded countless anti-virus/malware/adware tools
and programs. When I hit exe. in the downloads menu I get application could
not be found. I had a recovery console in the bios from Combofix. When I
choose that on startup I get blue screen. When I do system restore I'm
prompted to find a program to open it up with, which I don't know what that
would be. Normally I wouldn't bother you people with this and just do a
reinstall. It's required to load SCSI drivers (downloaded from HP) whenthe
reinstall is started. window message "txtsetup.oem could not be found."I've
been on the HP forums but they've been remarkable unresponsive. It was
suggested if I could unblock the driver but I don't know how to do thatand
haven't received an instruction reply yet.
Usually I get my support from buddies at work but I got laid off in Mayand
I don't want to be a total e-mail burden to them. They were my network of
support so I wouldn't mind taking it to a pro but I have no idea where to
start with that. Frankly I trust advice in forums like this better thansome
guy at Big Geek Squad Dept. store type thing. So that's the update on the
stuff I've covered so far!
