When I enter any word or phrase in the IE "search" I get
the message, "The page cannot be found". This is true
even when I go to other search engines and enter search
words or phrases. I also get this same message when I
try to click through on certain links.
I ran the QHost removal tool from Symantec and was
told "Qhost not found" on my computer. At one point
about 2 months ago, Symantec found the QHost virus on my
computer during one of my daily scans. I thought I
removed it but with these problems I'm wondering if I
have some lingering problems.
At the microsoft website I went to the, "October 2003,
Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (828750)
U.S. English " page and attempted to download; IE 6 SP1,
IE6 SP1 for Win XP 64 bit, and IE 6 for Wind XP (I have
128 bit and I didn't see an option for this). Each one I
tried to execute gave me the following message, "this
update requires IE 6 (sp)to be installed". On my browser
my IE version is 6.0 and under "Update Versions: it does
include "SP1 and Q828750". I even downloaded ie6 again
just to be safe.
But I still can't do a search on IE or other search
engines. The only exception to this rule is if I
enter the numbered IP address, for example if I
enter "http://216.239.37.99/" for Google -- then I can go
the Google site and enter search words or phrases and get
results. But if I just go to www.anysearchengine and type
in a search word or phrase, I get the,"The page cannot be
found" error message.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance! Julius
