Hi,

I just bought a HP a350n computer with XP (I'm coming form Windows 98).

Having the following problems:
1.When I log on, the following message keeps appearing:
“The ordinal 58 could not be located in the dynamic link library atl.dll.â€

2. I can’t print anything. I have an HP Deskjet 648C the was connected to my old computer with Windows 98. I tried downloading the latest driver for XP form HP's website, but afyrer downloading when I go to “Printers and Faxes†add the printer a put up window appears saying “The operation could not be completedâ€.

3. After I’m on the internet for a while, my pages go to the white screen page, but my DSL is still connected; can’t get anything by refreshing the page or reloading it. Never had this type of problem before with my old computer.

4. I tried HPs Instant Support Help but only get a pop-up that freezes saying in the title “HP Instant Support auto update†and nothing else. I click on “Ask for Help†and everything freezes. Sometimes screen appears asking me if I have a “communication problem†and when I go to change the drop to “printer problem†everything freezes, and I have to end the Help session.

Well, your first problem is typical of what happens if the wrong version of
a DLL is installed for some reason. Some program is calling the DLL at entry
point 58 but the DLL doesn't have such a point. This would typically mean
that the DLL installed is older than some more current programs are
expecting. In this case atl.dll resides in the windows\system32 folder and
is thus something that windows installs and upgrades might mess with on
occasion. I'm not really sure what the DLL does but a search in Google will
probably turn up something. But in any case, all you really need to do is
make sure that the proper version is installed.
