the opeartion failed. an object could not be found

I can receive mail but when sending mail in outlook 2003 - I receive the
message - : the opeartion failed. an object could not be found. Wheteher I
choose log on using secure authentication or not it never fails to return the
same error message.
any help that you may offer is greatly appreciated.
