The new SP2 'security' applet has a glaring BUG

The 'security' applet in control panel (added in SP2) is
crying 'wolf' incorrectly. Some ham-handed programmer
really blew it...seems they made the bad decision for the
'security manager' to ASSUME that the Windows Firewall
is turned ON even BEFORE they get status from below from
the real firewall that it is really in the 'not monitored' or 'off'
state. (Any programmer worth their salt would instead have
intialized to an 'unknown' state or whatever, until they got
VALID state-info from the 'source' (horses-mouth).

This INCORRECT state info will remain in the 'security manager'
for as long as 45 seconds or a minute, totally MIS-INFORMING
the system-user of the state of 'firewalling'.

Hopefully, you will SOON correct this gross bug. (Oh, that's
right, Microsoft doesn't have any bugs.) What I meant to say
was 'I hope that Microsoft will soon publish an 'update' that
will 'enhance the user experience'.

(Sorry...couldn't resist poking some fun.) ;^)

Cheers...

I've seen such an uproar from people with various rants about 'bugs' in
service pack 2.

It's not all that bad really and by now you should know what to expect.
