The "My Webs" folder lost its "globe"

I just started using FP2002 last week. I downloaded the MS Tutorial
and built the "Millenium" web according to its lessons. It worked fine
in FP.

I can close FP, then launch FP again and get to the "Millenium" web by
clicking FILE | RECENT WEBS. However, I can't see the "Millenium" web
in the Folder view (all that is there are two empty folders named
"private" and "images"). In addition, I searched for "Millenium" in
Windows Explorer and can't find it. (Yet it's obviously SOMEWHERE
since I can get to it by File | Recent Webs). Also, in Windows
Explorer there is NO Blue Globe on the "My Webs" folder icon.

Yesterday I read a post that suggested opening the "My Webs" folder
itself in FP to fix it. I did that and, magically, the blue globe came
back and the "Millenium" web folder appeared in the My Webs folder.
But toay the Blue Globe is gone again and the Millenium folder doesn't
appear again. (My PC was NOT turned off or restarted, just put on
"Standby" overnight.)

So today I tried to open My Webs in FP again to get the globe back, but
nothing happens. Anyone know how to fix this permanently?

Use File Menu | Open Web / Site instead.

Thomas -

Thanks for the quick response, but I can not do what you suggested.
When I click File from the file menu and the Open Web... I get a window
named "open Web" that has a field labeled "Look in:". There is no
option for the word "Site".

(By the way, in that FP "Open Web" window, the "My Webs" folder icon
has the blue globe and the "Millenium" folder appears, but in Windows
Explorer there is no globe and no Millenium folder.)

Site and Web are the same thing.

File Menu | Open Web
Look In | Browse to My Documents
Double Click My Webs to open
Click Open

Then you will see Millenium (if it has a globe, then it is subweb) If no globe, right click to
convert to subweb.

Sorry to be repetitive. I have NO problem with Millennium in FP (it
appears, it has a globe, and I can open it). I can create New, Empty
webs in FP, and they appear with blue globes on the folder list when I
click File | Open Web.

The problem is in Windows Explorer - there the My Webs folder has NO
globe and the web folders do not appear. How can I get the My Webs
folder to behave correctly in Windows Explorer?

Sorry I don't know on any way to set that.

You really should never be working or accessing your FP web content outside of the FP client
application.

Select the folder
Right Click and choose
Properties| Customize |Change Icon
Row2 Column 4 is the globe icon

I can't figure why the web folders don't appear
If they are there in FP, why doesn't Explorer show them?
(Not a rhetorical question - we need some expert to answer.)

Ah, maybe not. I just checked a few of mine and they are hidden.

Try Control Panel | Folder Options | View | Hidden files and folders | Show
hidden files and folders

Then you should see _vti_cnf _vti_pvt - there may be others.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I finally solved the problem, but not
the way I expected to. I had thought that the "My Webs" folder
that showed in Windows Explorer without a globe and without my
Millennium web in it could somehow be "converted" to a true "My
Webs" folder with a globe, but I could not do that. (Changing the
icon, as suggested above, did not convert the folder's
functionality.)

What I did was open the Millennium web in FP and "Publish" it to a
flash drive. Then I Deleted the entire My Webs folder (the one with no
globe). Then I launched FP and created a new empty web called "My
Webs" and dragged and dropped the Millennium web from the flash drive
into the new My Webs folder (the one WITH a globe). It seems to be
working well now.

Thanks again,
Dan
