Anyone seen the various videos/screenshots of the conference EPIC held on the next gen Unreal Engine?
It's seriously amazing stuff, there are more poly's in a single character than there is in a whole UT2004 map, light refracts through liquids and glass, shadows and light projections are real time (not just fixed projections like in the first) and calculated for each pixel individually, light blooms off light-coloured surfaces.
There's an article on it over at game spy, it's worth a gander: http://archive.gamespy.com/gdc2004/unrealengine3/
