the hide icons arrows

on the bottom of my screen in the icons area to the right, my arrows to hide
icons are gone. how do i get them back? u know, the ones that look like this
<<or>>.

Right click Start Button and select Properties, then under general Tab under
the Title:
Notification area:
[ ] Show the clock check this box

[ ] Hide inactive icons check this box

Be sure the [ ] Lock the taskbar check box is checked under Taskbar
appearance.

Notification Area

Also if no icons are hidden in the Notification area, the chevrons (<<) will
not appear.
