I am interested to use a fingerprints scanner and the capture of
identity would be in a form. I would like this thread to discuss,
present and focus on the *technical* aspect of it. I have no idea
how it operates. Ethic is *not* a concern.

Anybody did it here with Access? What hardware works well?

I am completely uninitiated when it comes to the technology. Seems like
a fingerprint scan should decode to some sort of serial number, which
you can compare to a list of allowed (or disallowed) serials, within
tolerance, to determine access.

I'm happily using the MS fingerprint scanner for my own personal use.
For logging on to Windows XP and some web sites.

Presumably though any such security device would come with an SDK
where you make an API call and the software takes over and requests
the fingerprint, does the comparison and reports back pass (maybe with
an account name or user id or such) or fail. Thus the device software
does all the heavy lifting and, more importantly, they control the
security aspects. Including secure, encrypted storage of the
fingerprint metrics for comparison purposes.

Note that the MS fingerprint scanner does *not* work for domains under
Windows XP. By definition this then would require that your
fingerprint be stored on the domain server. I would have a very, very
big problem with that. Especially if it was corporate policy for
such.
