Electric Sheep is a free, open source screen saver run by thousands of
people all over the world. It can be installed on any ordinary PC or
Mac. When these computers "sleep", the screen saver comes on and the
computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the
work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep". The
result is a collective "android dream", an homage to Philip K. Dick's
novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Anyone watching one of these computers may vote for their favorite
animations using the keyboard. The more popular sheep live longer and
reproduce according to a genetic algorithm with mutation and
cross-over. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience.

You may take a tour of the sheep web site and related documents.

Then the sheep start talking to one another, and eventually they start
discussing whether or not organic life is really necessary to the
functioning of the world.

For posting a literate and contextual follow-up? Hardly. You've become
a parody of yourself, "Slowhand."

I am on dial-up - would this cost a fortune?

Why bother?

Because he's a troll.
He has you killfiled. Not for the eyes of the group, surely?

Apparently "Slowhand" is an idiot who can't tell a joke from a serious
remark. Even when I include a smiley at the bottom for the slow witted
(like him.)

Just a baa-leycorn if you get a baa-rister to baa-gain with your ISP.
A bar-wrister costs more than the GDP of many nations though, so it may
be cheaper to finally sort out BB, despite all the horror stories I read
on Usenet ...

Well said...

That´s far away from a screensaver. At least the CPU load goes not to
100%!

The best one is, Blank Screen. Just black. 0% CPU laod. And the Monitor
bulb goes nearly off, saving energy and lifetime. For longer periods
(2h or so) it also recommandable to swithch off (by software, of
course), at all.

Daniel,
I agree. And I've assigned Ctrl-Alt-S to a shortcut for "Blank
Screen" so it's real easy to access. On the other hand, I still like
well done screen savers like those at:

http://www.reallyslick.com/

simply for their entertainment value. But when using my computer as a
music source, I like to blank the screen.

Nice. Thanks.

I fear my Card only supports OpenGL 1.1, making some weird effects with
many OpenGL (probably 1.3) Apps and Games.... even that, the card lacks
of OpenGL performance :-(
