The Document Image Printer

I'd appreciate some info on the Document Image Printer, which, apparently,
is something new in Word 2003.
We discovered it when my wife inadvertenly made it the default printer, and
we didn't know what was happening.

I had a similar *discovery*. I *think* it's considered part of
Publisher. Makes a TIF file. I think it's provided as a way for
Publisher users to share the fruits of their work with others who don't
have publisher. See

I can think of other uses.

I have a hunch it's Microsoft's very soft lob into Adobe PDF territory.

Thank you for that response. So you can print a "document image" and send it
to someone--sort of like a FAX printer?
Something along the lines of PDF. Sounds plausible. But I surely wish I had
known about it. I assumed that my inkjet was the only "printer" installed on
our computer. Now I know better.
