The Device Manager doesn't show anything

Hello everybody,

I am using Windows XP SP2 and from the middle of the nowhere my Canon
scanner N1220U started to send a message related to TWAIN source and that the
scanner was not properly connected.

Since then I have been trying to fix the problem. Therefore, I went directly
to the Device Manager and surprise!!!.. It didn't show any device, not even
the tree. In a few words NOTHING!! just a blank space. Therefore, I reboot
in safe mode. This time the Device Manager shows everything.

My question is as follows: What can be the problem that in normal mode,
Windows XP Device Manager doesn't show anything and in safe-mode is ok. I
made a complete virus scanning with Norton Antivirus 2005, but I couldn't
find anything.

Please help me with this problem, because neither the scanner nor the Device
manager work.

Thanks

Regards
Edgar

Check that the 'Plug and Play' service is running. Check Event Viewer for
errors.
