The connection to the server has failed.

I had been using Windows Live Mail now a couple of weeks with some problems
that I could deal with, however starting last week it started to not let me
log on. When I open Windows Live Mail I get the following error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Embarqmail (smigkendra)',
Server: 'pop.embarqmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Now I have tried deleting the progrma, reinstalling, retyping the log on
information, etc, but nothing works. I have to resort to using Windows Mail,
but that has problems also. Solution?

Which anti virus software do you use?

McAfee Security Center. The most recent version.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Beside that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail.

A few questions:

What are EML files?
Would you suggest removing McAfee and using only Windows firewall and the
avast virus protection?
Why would a major email program not be compatible with either Norton or
McAfee, probably the two biggest internet protection program out there or
vice versa?

Thanks

EML files are email files.

Norton and McAfee both try to dig their hooks deeply into the operating
system and mail program and break the mail program and often the operating
system. I will not use either and do not allow my customers to use them.

Thanks for your help. One more issue. Have you seen this before ~ see below?

Folder could not be displayed
Windows Live Mail could not open this folder.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible causes are:

Low disk space.

Low memory.

Windows Live Mail

This message is stuck in my outbox. It says I have 2 messages to be sent,
but when I click on the outbox I get the above. In addition, it always tries
to send the 2, but it gives a timeout eventually and nothing happens. I have
tried deleting, reinstalling, etc, but nothing. Any ideas?
