the command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open

I have this same problem

I have Microsoft Works on my computer, and I'm trying to install Microsoft Word on it but the above-mentioned problem occurs. Right at the point where it says "Preparing installation" a window pops up and says "The command cannot be performed because a dialogue box is open."

Any suggestions?
