the big question

I tried MS Antispyware today and the results were pretty disappointing.
Another endless loop - it identifies a bunch of stuff, says it's
removing it, makes you reboot, and then finds the same stuff again. To
get out of the loop and make the PC useable I had to disable it.

Yes, I've tried the latest Spybot, Adaware and Intermute's CWShredder.
They talk tough, but run and hide when Cool Web Search rides into town.

These programs are like taking your smashed-up car to a body shop, then
coming back and finding all the small dents fixed but the 2 really big
ones untouched.

So before I spend any more time on this thing, I have one question: is
it or is it not going to remove Cool Web Search?

Possibly not--but the Microsoft team would sure like it to be able to!

Please try a few more things before giving up:

1) submit a Tools, suspected spyware report
from your infected machine, giving any details you can about the infections
that remain.

2) try scanning in Safe mode\

3) try scanning after using MSCONFIG to set startup to DIAGNOSTIC mode.
(Please do this behind a hardware firewall or router, or with the Internet
disconnected--software firewalls may not start)
