As the heading states- what's the difference between the two types of
monitor ?

I'm thinking on changeing from CRT to flat panel and would like to
understand the options and the pros and cons !

TFT is a _type_ of LCD.

TFT is LCD. TFT (Thin Film Transistor), in laymans, is a layer of glass
that improves the quality of the image being displayed. You will see
the viewing angle of a TFT is wider than that of an ordinary LCD and
the picture clearer. I should imagine TFT is now much more common than
a standard LCD display by now.

Go to your local Big Computer Store and look at the various monitors
that are on. Compare how they appear to *you*. As far as I'm concerned,
there are no cons with flat panels unless you are a gamer. Then you
need to spend a bit more and get an LCD that can keep up. My boys have
Samsung SyncMaster 930B's and they work great for heavy-duty gaming.
